Telling it to you straight
My Buzz! is Live!
I found a new toy on Sunday. MyBuzz! is the online segment of the new Buzz! game coming to PS3. Buzz! is a trivia game that works like a gameshow. The new version will come with wireless buzzers but that's not what has me excited. MyBuzz! lets you create your own questions! You can play them online with the simple web interface but soon you'll be able to play them interactively with the buzzers on your home set. Sign me up. Gaming 3.0 just got fun for me.

Check out these goofy sets:

Casting Emergency! -Name the original actors in these film roles that were recast.

Forgotten Sci-Fi Television -See if you remember the names of these short lived sci-fi/fantasy series

Iron Man Director/Star Commentary Introduction
Jon Favreau said Marvel didn't spring for a director commentary on the upcoming DVD/Blu Ray Disc release of Iron Man. Therefore he was going to give the non-politicly correct version Live at the Aero Movieplex. He also introduced a surprise guest to the proceedings. The film's star. See for yourself!

Big thanks to GameJerk for the stealthy recording.Director and Star address the audience before the show.

1UP YOURS vs TOO HUMAN
1UP YOURS

My favorite gaming podcast just pissed me off.

Somebody put a name we don't associate with 1up in the hotseat to create 1UP.Com's final say on a controversial game. When this guy comes out of nowhere to shit all over it, what did you expect to happen? What an asshole! I'm talking about you Garnett. Your flippant response to the (justified in my opinion) net outcry is bullshit. I get the idea of the review being one man's opinion. I would have preferred to know something more about the man.

The review claims there is no difference between the classes after level 10 or so. Then Shane pipes in with the Bio-Engineer's healing factor being a big difference. Someone else points out the Defender's resistance to being knocked down certainly helps. Which is it guys?

Here's a simple solution for dealing with the 30 second cutscene when you die in the game. Don't die. If you die too much, you are doing something wrong. Try a new tactic. Sift through that useless loot you bicker about and find some better shit.

I'm only in the second level of the game (Ice Forrest). I enjoyed the banquet cutscene for the character bits and found the opening sequence with the buzz saw cutters a bit goofy. The cutter animation really sucked. Anyone with a Marvel comics level Norse knowledge can follow what's going on. And there's always Wikipedia if the story leaves you craving for more. I like it when games do that.

So far it's been fun as hell.

Board the Meat Train August 15th @ Midnight via NuArt
Clive Barker's Midnight Meat Train is playing at the NuArt this Friday @ Midnight with director Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus).

Interesting studio politics saw this film dumped into only 100 theaters upon release. I'm curious enough to check it out for myself. Any takers?

This might be the most linktastic message ever.

Ode to a Terminator
I am very "Late To The Party" with The Sarah Conner Chronicles. I watched episodes 3-5 last night. I've got to admit the show surprised me with the direction it took. The pilot's attempt to do a Terminator movie on a TV budget turned me off.

What grabbed me is the danger and dread a Terminator presents to the normal setup of an adventure show. I like the time allotted to the show's nominal villain. The FBI agent tracking Sarah's crew is not someone I should care about. I should hate the protagonist's pursuer. He is Inspectors Javert of Le Meserables and Gerard of The Fugitive or Mr. Magee of The Hulk.

The sweet twist is how I feel when this guy's investigation endangers him. When he visits a suspect who has been replaced by a Terminator, the odd connection I felt for this hapless fellow human was thrilling. Remember John's one dimensional stereotype of white trash foster parents in Terminator 2? I still felt for these poorly defined, literally throw away characters. Why? The answer lies with what the Terminator represents.

Terminators obliterate the foundation of civilized society at its core.
Here's how I back up these words:
  • The non-Arnold versions are more scary with new found anonymity.
  • Physical superiority make them unquestionably lethal at close range.
  • Unrivaled ranged accuracy
  • Stopping them requires hard to achieve levels of force.
  • They kill without fear of discovery or reprisal.
The show's writers are hip to this and use it. So far I'm having a blast. I hope they can keep it up.
