The Riget or the Kingdom refers to Copenhagen's Rigshospitalet, the best and the most sophisticated hospital of Denmark which has all modern technology available at its disposal. The movie focuses on the neurosurgical ward of the hospital where a number of inexplicable and mysterious events are happening. All the occurrences have some explanation which is revealed later. For example, a patient Sigrid Drusse (Kirsten Rolffes) hears strange voices in the elevator which turn out to belong to a dead girl who was killed by her father. He must now find the body so that the soul of the girl can rest. Every night an ambulance apparition appears every night and it goes away by morning. Sigrid and some patients and doctors try to find a solution for these unnatural occurrences.
